This year's featured instructors are:\n \n Ramona Staffeld\n Evita Arce\n & Gina Helfrich\n \n Southern Belle Swing Bash is a workshop weekend devoted to women's role in Lindy Hop and all forms of jazz dance. Now in our fourth year\, Southern Belles is the longest running annual ladies' Lindy Hop workshop in the country! (And maybe the world. We're pretty sure in the world.) We're celebrating by bringing you three workshop tracks this year\, for an intense and focused series of classes tailored to your level. 2008 will also feature our first all-ladies DJ line-up. And continuing the tradition of past years\, we will have high energy contests\, late night dances\, performances\, and live music.  As always\, leaders of a solidly intermediate level and above are welcome to attend for free!\n \n We're also happy to welcome Carl Nelson as our lead-of-honor for the weekend.  Carl will be helping out with classes\, teaching a guys' specialty class\, and generally contributing to the merriment.\n \n T-Shirt Design Contest!\n We know there are lots of creative ladies out there who could come up with something fabulous for our 2008 Southern Belles t-shirts. DESCRIPTION:Simon Selmon will be in town at the end of September and will teach a two day\, 10 hour workshop series!\n \n Simon Selmon has choreographed and performed for stage\, film\, video and television and written two books on Swing dancing.\n \n He is a UK and American dance champion and has been featured in numerous newspapers and magazines.\n \n He founded the London Swing Dance Society in 1986\, the UK's biggest and longest running swing dance club\, as well as the famous Stompin' Swing Nights at London's legendary 100 Club. \n \n \n ----\n \n The workshop is going to be hosted by Rendezvous Ballroom and Lance Benishek. DESCRIPTION:Jammin' on the James\n October 17-19\, 2008\n Richmond\, Va\n \n This year (our sixth) we offer something familiar and something new.  The familiar is that we have the return of Naomi Uyama and Mike Faltesek as instructors.  The new is that this year we are excited to welcome for the first time Nina Gilkenson and Peter Strom!  All four will team up to teach our intermediate and beginner tracks.  That's right\, we have the return of the beginner track for the those new to lindy and those who may still be unsure if they're ready to move to an intermediate level class.  In  an effort to let the beginners absorb as much as possible\, we're keeping the class sizes small and only having two classes each day.  And the beginners will benefit from the instruction of the same world class instructors who are teaching the intermediate classes!\n \n Once again we are putting the focus on our local musical talent at our dances.  Jammin' favorites\, Gypsy Roots (Hot Club of France-style hot jazz) make a return appearance as does Swiss Swank Account\, although this year we're going with a small group (sextet) version as a change of pace.  And of course we wrap up the weekend with the trad jazz sounds of the Doctors of Jazz.  Plus the popular late night dances with quality DJs (TBA)\, free refreshments to keep you going\, and some downright nice and friendly  dancers from all over!\n \n The weekend schedule and instructor bios are up on the website. Short bios:\n \n Ben & Gen are from Quebec City\, Quebec (ke-beck\, trust me) and are super fantastic performers and teachers.  They compete all over and usually place or win.\n \n You may remember Evita & Michael from So You Think You Can Dance.  They made it to Las Vegas and brought Lindy Hop to a national television audience.  They\, too\, are national competitors\, winning and placing at several competitions. DESCRIPTION:We are excited to once again\, for our 10th anniversary\, bring top notch teaching and dancing talent to Sving du Nord!  \n \n Ben & Jen!\n Michael & Evita!\n \n Here are some short bios: \n \n Ben & Gen are from Quebec City\, Quebec (ke-beck\, trust me) and are super fantastic performers and teachers. They compete all over and usually place or win. \n \n You may remember Evita & Michael from So You Think You Can Dance. They made it to Las Vegas and brought Lindy Hop to a national television audience. They\, too\, are national competitors\, winning and placing at several competitions. Evita in particular was one of the highlights for last year's American Lindy Hop Championships for me\, entering many competitions and one of the best all around performers! \n \n www.svingdunord.com
